The Großhennersdorf fools have been an integral part of local cultural life since 1981. The club was founded by what was then the Großhennersdorf village club, the former cultural center. The history that followed was characterized by upheavals that also paved the way for new and sometimes unusual ideas. So after the fall of the Wall, when their home was closed, the carnivalists re-established themselves and quickly moved into the community's community facility. Until the GKC, again homeless, ventured onto the stage of the Großhennersdorf meeting center in 2007.
Once there, we began to supplement our stage plays with professionally filmed video clips. The traditional “Schunkel events” became a family stage carnival with cabaret character. The recipe for success: an entertaining mix of film scenes, cabaret, dance and music for carnival and culture fans big and small. The program cannot be imagined without residents and veterans, almost forgotten places and stories from Großhennersdorf and the surrounding area. The two main characters, Linna and Paul, led the way through all these years. The idiosyncratic but lovable couple traveled from the Orient, through fairytale land to the sanatorium and from there to the Wild West, to Egypt and to Russia. – Until they discovered the stuff that films are made of. Since then, the fools around Linna and Paul have presented carnival versions of the Rocky Horror Show, from the Dance of the Vampires, the Olsen Gang and the famous GDR film series “Spuk unterm Riesenrad” to the famous Rühmann classic “Die Feuerzangenbowle”. It will continue to have a cinematic feel in the future...
The association is supported by the community of Herrnhut, the Hillerschen Villa and the Gerhart Hauptmann Theater Zittau, among others. Of course, the majority of the club members come from Großhennersdorf, but people from Ruppersdorf, Berthelsdorf, Oderwitz and Zittau also provide support and contribute with fresh ideas. The club's pride and joy is the Funkengarde, which has now grown to 16 girls between the ages of 10 and 18.
The GKC is open to anyone who would like to get involved and is happy to work with other clubs and cultural institutions.
